What Materials Are Used in Scriveiner Pens?
The materials used in a pen determine how it feels in the hand. Weight, balance, smoothness, and overall refinement all come down to the construction beneath the finish. At Scriveiner, we select metals and finishes that create a substantial yet slim profile and a centred balance point close to the grip section. Below, we guide you through the materials that shape every Scriveiner pen.
What Materials Are Scriveiner Pens Made Of?
All Scriveiner pens are built around metal barrels. Most models use brass, a durable metal that offers natural weight and precision. A select range of Pocket Pens uses aluminium to create a lighter, travel-friendly profile. The diversity in materials and finishes becomes clear when exploring our two collections: Classic Pens and Pocket Pens.
What Are Scriveiner Classic Pens Made Of?
Scriveiner Classic Pens are crafted from brass, chosen for its stability, durability, and premium feel. This barrel is finished in one of two ways:
-
High-gloss lacquer, applied in multiple layers to achieve depth, shine, and scratch resistance.
-
Ion-plated metal finishes, including gold and silver chrome, offer a richer surface hardness and a timeless metallic sheen.
Classic Pens follow a refined British design philosophy: clean lines, balanced proportions, and understated luxury. Their weight, both lacquer and plated, is around 34 grams, placing them in the mid-weight category for comfortable everyday writing.
What Are Scriveiner Pocket Pens Made Of?
The Scriveiner Pocket Collection includes the lightest and heaviest pens in the entire range, thanks to the diversity of materials used.
Aluminium Pocket Pens (Anodised Finish)
Some Pocket Pens use a precision-machined aluminium barrel, chosen for its portability and slim profile. These models are finished with matt anodising, a scratch-resistant coating ideal for writing on the move.
Weight: 28 g, making them the lightest pens in our selection.
These pens are ideal for discreet carry — slipping easily into a pocket, clipping to a shirt or notebook, or travelling in a bag without adding bulk.
Brass Pocket Pens (Metal Finishes)
Other Pocket Pens follow the construction principle of the Classic range, with brass barrels finished with metal plating. Some colours, such as Copper and Bronze, receive a hand-brushed treatment, creating a textured, artisanal surface.
Despite their compact size, these pens are substantial in the hand.
Weight: 51 g, the heaviest pen in our current collection.
How Does a Scriveiner Pen Feel Compared to Other Pens?
The feel of a pen depends on material choice, barrel thickness, and weight distribution. Scriveiner pens are engineered to be slim, balanced, and comfortable for extended writing sessions.
Light Pens (typically resin, below 20 g)
Many lightweight pens are made of resin or plastic. They can be comfortable for quick notes, but often lack the stability and control that metal-barrel pens provide.
Mid-Weight Pens (20–50 g)
This is where most Scriveiner pens sit.
Mid-weight pens offer a comfortable equilibrium:
-
enough weight for control,
-
not so much that the hand tyres during long writing sessions.
Scriveiner Classic models (34 g) fall squarely into this category.
Heavy Pens (50–80 g)
Heavier pens are typically made of thicker metals or built as oversized models. Scriveiner’s brass Pocket Pen at 51 g sits at the lower end of the heavy category while still maintaining a slim silhouette.
Where Scriveiner Fits
Across the range, Scriveiner offers pens from 28 g up to 51 g, creating a selection that caters to:
-
writers who prefer lighter, agile instruments,
-
those who enjoy the presence of a heavier metal pen.
Every design is balanced toward the grip section, ensuring stability and precision regardless of weight.
